This example is about lack of equipment for sports and how it is dangerous because it is so stretched out. “It is forcing us to stretch the life of equipment, uniforms and field maintenance to the point where it is almost embarrassing.” (John Simar, The Lawrenceville School, N.J.). This shows the reader how the lack of funding affects students because it embarrasses them and causes injuries.

Survey Responses
Survey summary
From this data overall we learned that most students at Lindblom believe the sport they play needs more funding. We also learned that most student athletes want more transportation so they don’t need to worry about getting to and from games. Most students want bigger stands as well so more people can support all kinds of sports. Overall Lindblom needs to do a better job at funding and supporting the student athletes and sports that they play because it could be that child’s future in life, and so that they can enjoy their high school sport and time in high school because you are only in high school once

Interviews
Interview summary
Henry-Henry is on the soccer and volleyball team. He also does not believe his sports receive enough funding or attention from the school. At home games for soccer barely any people show up because of the lack of support from the school. Same thing for volleyball. For his volleyball shorts they didn’t fit him and he even gave them to his little brother.
Susie- Susie is on the soccer and tennis team and does not believe neither of the sports she plays get enough attention. For example they don’t get a lot of supporters at their tennis matches because it receives no attention from the school. She also believes her sports don’t receive enough funding especially for tennis because her team didn’t have the same shirts for games and didn’t have proper sizes.
Coach Peachey- Coach Peachey coaches the freshman boys basketball team. Although the team doesn’t get a lot of home games because they are freshman when they had their only home game they got a lot of support because it received a lot of attention from the school staff. However they did receive old beat down jersey’s and some even had stains on it that wouldn’t come out.
How decreased funding affects student athletes (Research 2)
Transportation is key especially for sports. Sports need transportation so players can arrive to their games on time. One high school in Virginia deals with this problem. A coach for the school states, “My school system has discontinued transporting students home after games. Many of my players come from economically disadvantaged homes, and either there is no automobile in the household or the parents or guardians are working and can’t pick up their children. The extra burden now is placed on the coaches to make sure players get home safely.” (Earl Hester, Warwick High School, Newport News, Va.). This coach is voicing his opinions on sports funding in high school and how it affects his students. He states that his parents usually don’t have time or transportation available so their students cannot get back from their or to their games. We should take note of this so the student athletes at Lindblom can have a great experience and not have to worry about transportation.

This quote about how students have to spend too much money on the sports they play in order to participate.
“Not only have they cut out our budget for all sports, the district has a transportation fee. All students are required to pay the fee ($150 per sport) unless they can show financial distress. Now, parents tell their children they only can choose to participate in one or two sports. If they decide to participate in track, for example, we ask all team members to take part in the fundraiser or give $50. Add that to the transportation fee and you’re looking at $200 to start. Then, the athletes have to purchase their own warmups ($130) and shoes ($100). For a first-time athlete in track, that adds up to $430 before the season begins” (Benjamin Trombley, Kimball High School, Tracy, Calif.). This quote shows that because the lack of funding in different high schools all around the country students have to pay more then they should have to which result in parental complaints and unnecessary fees. High schools need to put in more funding in sports for the student athletes and so they can reach their dreams.
